That one fact shapes nearly every call we take in 32256. A fifteen or twenty year old range is a fundamentally different service visit from a five year old one, and the difference is not that it is more broken. It is that what breaks has moved. ## What actually fails at twenty years The mechanical parts are usually fine. The owner gets pale cakes and long roasts and assumes the oven is healthy because nothing has complained about it. We measure the probe cold and compare it against the resistance the service data specifies before anybody discusses a board. ## The order we test in On equipment this age the testing order is worth stating, because doing it in the wrong order is how people buy boards they did not need. First the supply. A range, a wall oven and an induction cooktop all run on 240-volt circuits, which means two hot legs, and losing one produces a half-dead appliance that mimics a failed board precisely. That check takes five minutes at the panel and costs nothing. Second, the cheap and measurable parts: probe resistance, element continuity, igniter draw, door switch operation, hinge and latch behaviour. Most of what gets diagnosed as a board on a twenty-year-old built-in is one of these. The board goes last, because it is the most expensive part in the appliance and the hardest to obtain for an older unit. We would rather spend twenty minutes proving it than order one on a hunch. ## Parts, serial numbers and lead times Parts are ordered against the model and serial from the data plate — behind the kick panel on a range, on the frame behind the door on a wall oven. On older equipment the serial matters more than usual, because production details change mid-run and the part that fits an early unit is not always the part that fits a later one carrying the same model number. Photograph the whole plate rather than copying it out. Lead time is the honest constraint here. The parts that fail often ride on the van. A board or a specific burner assembly for an older unit is ordered in, and sometimes the original has been superseded by a component with a different footprint or connector, which is a conversation worth having before you commit rather than after the appliance is in pieces. Where the total starts to approach the cost of replacing the appliance, we say so at the diagnostic rather than at the end. ## Steam ovens and built-in coffee systems These are the appliances in a 32256 kitchen with a maintenance schedule that actually has to be kept.
